How to Create the Douyin Makeup Look

Douyin makeup emphasizes dewy skin, gradient lips, straight brows, and soft definition with minimal contouring for a youthful, filter-like appearance.

It's essentially no-makeup makeup with better marketing and a focus on looking perpetually nineteen.

  1. Create the glass skin base. Use a hydrating primer followed by light-to-medium coverage foundation mixed with a drop of facial oil. Spot conceal only where needed and set lightly with translucent powder, leaving the high points of your face dewy.
  2. Shape straight, youthful brows. Brush brow hairs upward and fill in sparse areas to create a straighter, less arched shape than Western brow trends. Use short, hair-like strokes and keep the tail shorter than the natural brow length for a more innocent appearance.
  3. Define eyes subtly. Apply neutral brown eyeshadow close to the lash line and blend upward minimally. Line the upper lash line with brown eyeliner, keeping it thin and stopping before the outer corner. Skip heavy contouring on the crease.
  4. Create gradient lips. Apply lip tint or liquid lipstick to the center of your lips only, then blend outward with your finger to create a soft gradient effect. The color should be most intense at the center and fade toward the edges.
  5. Add subtle dimension. Use cream blush on the apples of your cheeks for a natural flush. Add minimal highlighter to the bridge of your nose and inner corners of your eyes. Skip heavy contouring and bronzing.
