How to Perfect the No-Makeup Makeup Look
Use skin-tinted products in the thinnest possible layers to enhance what you already have without covering it up.
The whole point is looking like you woke up this beautiful—if someone can tell you're wearing makeup, you've already lost.
- Start with hydrated skin. Apply a lightweight moisturizer and let it absorb completely. Skip primer unless your skin is genuinely oily—most primers will make you look too polished for this effect.
- Even out selectively. Use concealer or tinted moisturizer only where you need it, not everywhere. Blend the edges until they disappear completely into your natural skin.
- Add warmth strategically. Sweep cream blush onto the apples of your cheeks and blend upward. The goal is to look like you just came in from a brisk walk.
- Define without darkening. Use a spoolie to brush brows upward, then fill sparse spots with hair-like strokes using a pencil one shade lighter than your natural color.
- Enhance your lashes subtly. Apply one coat of brown mascara to upper lashes only. Comb through with a clean spoolie to separate and remove any clumps.
- Perfect your lips. Apply a lip balm that matches your natural lip color or go one shade deeper. Press off any excess so it looks like your lips, just better.
