Halloween Smoky Eye That Actually Works

Build dark shadows in layers from the outer corner inward, blend with a fluffy brush, then line with black for drama that photographs well.

Most people quit too early with smoky eyes. Push it further than feels comfortable. Halloween is not the time for subtle.

  1. Prime and set the base. Pat eyeshadow primer from lash line to brow bone. This prevents fallout and makes dark colors pop. Set with translucent powder to create grip.
  2. Map the outer V. Use a small shader brush to press dark shadow into the outer corner of your eye. Keep it concentrated in a V shape that follows your eye socket. Build slowly.
  3. Blend the edges. Take a clean fluffy brush and blend the harsh edges in small circular motions. Work only on the edges, not the intense center. Add more shadow if you blend too much away.
  4. Line and smudge. Draw black liner along upper and lower lash lines. Smudge the lower line with a small brush for that lived-in smokiness. Finish with black mascara on top and bottom lashes.
