How to Create a New Year Shimmer Look

Layer shimmer strategically on high points of your face and use metallic eyeshadow to catch light without looking overdone.

  1. Prime for shimmer. Use an eyeshadow primer on lids and a face primer with light-reflecting properties on cheekbones. This creates grip for shimmer products and prevents fallout from ruining your base makeup.
  2. Build metallic eyes. Pat metallic eyeshadow onto the center of your lids with a flat shader brush, then blend edges with a fluffy brush. Keep the shimmer concentrated where light hits naturally—the mobile lid and inner corners.
  3. Add strategic face shimmer. Apply cream highlighter to cheekbones, nose bridge, and cupid's bow with your fingers for the most natural blend. The warmth of your skin will melt the product for seamless application.
  4. Set with powder shimmer. Dust a light layer of powder highlighter over cream products to lock them in place and amplify the glow. Use a fan brush for precise application that won't disturb your base.
  5. Finish with metallic accents. Add shimmer eyeshadow to lower lash line and inner corners for cohesion. Consider a metallic lip gloss or liner to tie the look together without competing with your eyes.
