The Winter Cool-Tone Look
Build depth with cool purples, silvery grays, and icy blues while keeping skin luminous and lips in berry or nude territory.
- Prime for luminosity. Use a hydrating primer with subtle pearl undertones. Winter air dries everything out, so skip mattifying formulas. The goal is skin that looks lit from within, not flat.
- Create the base. Apply foundation normally but add a drop of liquid highlighter to your usual amount. Blend thoroughly. This prevents the ashy look that can happen when you pile on cool shadows later.
- Map the cool palette. Start with a cool-toned neutral in your crease — think taupe with gray undertones. Build depth with deeper purples or charcoal, keeping the intensity gradual. The trick is layering, not packing on color.
- Add the statement shade. Pat metallic silver, icy blue, or cool lavender on the mobile lid. Use your finger or a flat brush and build in thin layers. These shades can look muddy if applied too heavily at once.
- Define without warmth. Line eyes with deep plum, navy, or charcoal instead of black. Smudge slightly for softness. Finish with black or brown mascara — dramatic lashes ground the cool tones.
- Balance the lip. Choose berry, mauve, or a nude with cool undertones. Avoid anything peachy or warm orange — it will clash with your carefully built cool palette.
