How to Make Makeup Last All Day

Prime your skin, set each layer as you go, and use powder strategically to lock everything in place.

  1. Start with clean, moisturized skin. Apply a lightweight moisturizer and let it absorb completely before makeup. Clean skin grips product better than oily or dry patches.
  2. Use primer where you need it most. Apply primer to your T-zone and anywhere makeup typically slides off. Skip areas where your skin is already dry—primer can make those spots look worse.
  3. Build coverage in thin layers. Apply foundation with a damp beauty sponge or brush, building coverage gradually. Thick layers separate and slide around throughout the day.
  4. Set with powder immediately. Press translucent powder into areas that get oily first—under eyes, T-zone, chin. Use a fluffy brush to blend away any excess.
  5. Layer cream and powder products. Use cream blush, then powder blush on top for dimension and staying power. Same principle works for eyeshadow—cream base, powder on top.
  6. Lock in your look. Finish with setting spray held 8 inches from your face. Let it dry completely before touching anything.
