How to Create the Perfect Bitten Lip Stain

Build color from the center of your lips outward using a lip tint or lipstick, then blur the edges for that just-bitten gradient effect.

  1. Prep your lips. Start with bare, slightly moisturized lips. Skip heavy balm or gloss—you need some grip for the stain to catch. Gently press lips together to distribute any moisture evenly.
  2. Apply color to the center. Use a lip tint, liquid lipstick, or cream lipstick to apply color only to the inner third of your lips. Press and release your lips together once to transfer color naturally.
  3. Blur outward. Use your finger or a small brush to gently pat and blur the color toward the outer edges. Work in small motions, building gradually rather than dragging harshly.
  4. Perfect the gradient. Add more color to the center if needed and continue blurring. The goal is seamless transition from saturated center to bare lip edges with no visible lines.
