How to Drape Your Cheeks with Blush
Draping means applying blush from the apples of your cheeks up toward your temples in a sweeping motion that mimics natural flush and adds dimension.
- Map your cheek geography. Smile to find the apples of your cheeks, then feel for the highest point of your cheekbone. Your draping zone runs from the apple upward and outward toward your temple. This creates lift and dimension rather than just adding color.
- Choose your blush formula and shade. Powder blush gives the most control for beginners, while cream blush blends more naturally into skin. Pick a shade that mimics how you naturally flush—usually one to two tones deeper than your natural skin color.
- Apply in an upward sweep. Start at the apple of your cheek with a fluffy angled brush and sweep the color upward toward your temple in one continuous motion. Build gradually rather than applying too much at once—you can always add more.
- Blend and diffuse the edges. Use a clean fluffy brush to soften any harsh lines and blend the color seamlessly into your skin. The goal is a natural gradient that looks like it's coming from within rather than sitting on top of your skin.
