How to Create a Floating Liner Look

Draw a disconnected line above your upper lash line, creating the illusion of liner that hovers over your eye.

  1. Map your eye shape. Look straight ahead in a mirror and identify where your mobile lid meets your crease. This is where your floating line will sit. Mark this spot lightly with a nude liner as your guide.
  2. Create the floating line. Using liquid or gel liner, draw a thin line that follows your eye shape about 2-3mm above your lash line. Start from the inner corner and extend slightly past your outer corner. Keep your eyes open while drawing to ensure the line is visible.
  3. Perfect the shape. Thicken the line gradually toward the outer corner, creating a subtle wing if desired. The line should appear to float independently from your lashes when your eyes are open.
  4. Clean up and balance. Use a flat brush with concealer to sharpen the edges and remove any wobbles. Apply mascara to your upper lashes without connecting them to the floating line.
