How to Stipple Foundation with a Sponge
Press a damp beauty sponge straight down onto your skin in quick tapping motions instead of dragging or rubbing to build coverage without disturbing the layer underneath.
- Prep your sponge. Dampen your beauty sponge with water and squeeze out excess moisture until it feels plump but not dripping. A damp sponge prevents product absorption and gives you better control over coverage.
- Apply foundation dots. Dot foundation directly onto your face in strategic spots—forehead, cheeks, nose, chin. Start with less than you think you need since stippling builds coverage gradually.
- Stipple in sections. Press the sponge straight down onto each dot using quick bouncing motions. Work in small sections, lifting the sponge completely off your skin between presses rather than dragging or rolling it.
- Build coverage systematically. Move methodically across your face, overlapping stippled areas slightly to blend edges. Add more product only after you've stippled the first layer completely into place.
