How to Do Reverse French Nails

Paint the moon of your nail instead of the tip for a modern twist on the classic French manicure.

  1. Prep your base. Apply a clear base coat and let it dry completely. Clean nails hold polish better and the base protects your natural nail from staining.
  2. Create the moon guide. Place a small round sticker or use tape curved into a half-moon shape at the base of each nail, covering the lunula area. The exposed part will be your accent color.
  3. Paint the exposed area. Apply your chosen accent color to the exposed crescent area in thin, even coats. Two coats usually give the best opacity and finish.
  4. Remove guides and finish. Carefully peel off the stickers while the polish is slightly tacky to avoid pulling up dried polish. Apply top coat over the entire nail for a seamless finish.
