Editor's note
Skin in your twenties is the most resilient it will ever be. The job is to not break it. SPF every day, a gentle cleanser, a moisturiser if you want one, and the patience to leave the actives alone until you actually need them. This is the decade where habits compound — the ones you build now will matter far more than the products. Less is the work. The full library is below.
Other decades
What's actually happening in your twenties
Sebum production is at its lifetime peak. Collagen is still being synthesised at full rate. Cellular turnover is fast — roughly every 28 days. The barrier is intact. UV damage accumulates silently from day one, but you won't see it for years. This is the decade where protection compounds and where overcomplication causes more problems than it solves.
Myth, meet fact
- Myth: You need a full routine in your twenties. Fact: A cleanser, a moisturiser, and SPF is a full routine. Adding actives early is solution-finding for problems that don't exist yet.
- Myth: Starting retinol young is prevention. Fact: Low-dose retinol at 25+ has some evidence behind it, but the twenties are for building tolerance, not chasing results. Start slowly if you start.
- Myth: SPF only matters when it's sunny. Fact: UVA doesn't care about cloud cover. It passes through glass. The cumulative dose across a decade is the story.
