How to Clear Blackheads Without Destroying Your Skin
Use oil cleansing followed by a BHA exfoliant consistently—blackheads dissolve with patience, not force.
- Double cleanse with oil first. Start with an oil cleanser to dissolve the sebum plugs gently. Massage for 60 seconds, then follow with your regular cleanser to remove residue. This softens blackheads without aggressive scrubbing that inflames skin.
- Apply BHA exfoliant to clean skin. Use salicylic acid 2-3 times per week on dry skin after cleansing. It penetrates oil and dissolves the keratin plugs from inside the pore. Start with once weekly if you're new to acids.
- Steam before gentle extraction. Hold your face over warm water for 3-5 minutes to soften skin. Use clean fingers wrapped in tissue to apply gentle pressure around ready blackheads—if they don't come out easily, leave them alone.
- Finish with niacinamide. Apply a niacinamide serum to regulate oil production and minimize pore appearance. This prevents new blackheads from forming while your skin heals from extraction.
