How to Make DIY Toner at Home

Mix equal parts filtered water and witch hazel or apple cider vinegar for a basic toner that balances skin pH without harsh chemicals.

Most people overthink toner - witch hazel and water does everything expensive bottles promise, minus the marketing budget.

  1. Choose your base. Start with witch hazel for sensitive skin or diluted apple cider vinegar for oily skin. Both restore pH balance naturally. Always use filtered water to avoid tap water impurities.
  2. Mix the ratio. Combine equal parts base and filtered water in a clean bottle. For apple cider vinegar, start with 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water if you have sensitive skin. Shake gently to blend.
  3. Add enhancement. Drop in 2-3 drops of tea tree oil for acne-prone skin or chamomile tea (cooled) instead of water for irritated skin. Green tea works well for antioxidant benefits.
  4. Test and apply. Patch test on your wrist first. Apply to clean skin with a cotton pad, avoiding the eye area. Use within 2 weeks and store in the refrigerator.
