How to Protect Your Skin During Cold Snaps
Switch to heavier moisturizers, add a facial oil, and create barriers against harsh wind.
- Switch Your Moisturizer. Replace lightweight lotions with cream-based moisturizers that contain ceramides or hyaluronic acid. Your summer gel moisturizer won't cut it when temperatures drop suddenly.
- Layer a Facial Oil. Apply 2-3 drops of facial oil before your moisturizer while skin is still damp. This creates an extra barrier that locks in moisture when cold air tries to strip it away.
- Cover Exposed Areas. Wear a scarf that covers your neck and lower face, and don't forget lip balm with SPF. Wind chill damages skin faster than cold alone.
- Adjust Your Cleansing. Skip harsh foaming cleansers and switch to cream or oil-based cleansers temporarily. Your skin barrier is already working overtime against the cold.
