How to Care for Your Skin on a Cruise

Double your SPF, triple your hydration, and adjust your routine for salt air and sun exposure.

  1. Pack concentrated moisture. Bring a heavier moisturizer than usual and a hydrating serum. Cruise ship air conditioning and ocean wind strip moisture from skin faster than you think. Apply both morning and night.
  2. SPF becomes non-negotiable. Use SPF 50 minimum, reapply every two hours without exception. The reflection off water doubles UV exposure even in shade. Pack a zinc stick for nose and shoulders.
  3. Rinse salt immediately. Shower within 30 minutes of ocean swimming or deck time. Salt crystals on skin magnify sun damage and cause dehydration. Use lukewarm water and pat dry gently.
  4. Simplify your evening routine. Skip actives like retinol and acids while cruising. Your skin is already stressed from sun and salt exposure. Stick to gentle cleanser, hydrating serum, and rich moisturizer.
