Desert Skin Survival

Desert climates demand triple-duty hydration: a humectant serum, occlusive moisturizer, and broad-spectrum SPF reapplied religiously.

  1. Morning barrier prep. Start with a gentle cleanser that won't strip oils, then layer hyaluronic acid or glycerin serum on damp skin. Follow with a ceramide-rich moisturizer while skin is still slightly wet to lock in hydration.
  2. SPF fortress. Apply zinc oxide or titanium dioxide SPF 30+ as your final step. Desert sun is unforgiving and reflects off sand, doubling exposure. Reapply every two hours or after sweating.
  3. Evening repair mode. Remove SPF with an oil cleanser, then water-based cleanser. Apply a thicker night moisturizer or facial oil while skin is damp to maximize absorption and overnight repair.
  4. Environmental defense. Run a humidifier in your bedroom to combat dry indoor air. Drink water constantly, not just when thirsty. Your skin reflects your hydration status within hours.
