How to Care for Skin During Sauna Sessions

Cleanse beforehand, hydrate during, and moisturize immediately after to prevent dehydration and maintain your skin barrier.

  1. Pre-sauna prep. Remove all makeup and cleanse with a gentle cleanser. Your pores will open in the heat, so you want clean skin going in. Drink water beforehand too.
  2. During the session. Keep a damp towel nearby to gently pat your face if sweat stings your eyes. The sweating is doing the work—don't scrub or touch your skin unnecessarily.
  3. Cool down gradually. Step out before you feel dizzy or overheated. Rinse with lukewarm water, not cold—shocking your system defeats the relaxation purpose.
  4. Lock in moisture immediately. While your skin is still slightly damp, apply a rich moisturizer or face oil. Your skin is more permeable after heat exposure, so products absorb better now.
