How to Care for Skin During Sauna Sessions
Cleanse beforehand, hydrate during, and moisturize immediately after to prevent dehydration and maintain your skin barrier.
- Pre-sauna prep. Remove all makeup and cleanse with a gentle cleanser. Your pores will open in the heat, so you want clean skin going in. Drink water beforehand too.
- During the session. Keep a damp towel nearby to gently pat your face if sweat stings your eyes. The sweating is doing the work—don't scrub or touch your skin unnecessarily.
- Cool down gradually. Step out before you feel dizzy or overheated. Rinse with lukewarm water, not cold—shocking your system defeats the relaxation purpose.
- Lock in moisture immediately. While your skin is still slightly damp, apply a rich moisturizer or face oil. Your skin is more permeable after heat exposure, so products absorb better now.
