How to Fix Flaky Skin on Your Face
Flaky skin happens when your barrier is compromised—fix it by ditching harsh products and rebuilding with gentle cleansing, consistent moisture, and protective oils.
Flaky skin is your face throwing a tantrum because you've been too aggressive with it—treat it like you would a crying child, with patience and gentle care, not more discipline.
- Stop the damage. Remove anything that strips your skin—foaming cleansers, toners with alcohol, physical scrubs. Your skin is already irritated and these will make it worse. Switch to a cream or oil cleanser that doesn't foam.
- Add moisture immediately after cleansing. Apply moisturizer to damp skin within 60 seconds of washing. Wet skin holds moisture better than dry skin. Use something with ceramides or hyaluronic acid—they actually repair the barrier instead of just sitting on top.
- Layer a facial oil at night. Add 2-3 drops of facial oil over your moisturizer before bed. Jojoba or squalane work best because they mimic your natural oils. This seals everything in and gives your skin time to repair overnight.
- Never pick or scrub. Resist the urge to peel or exfoliate flaky patches. This creates micro-tears and prolongs healing. If flakes are bothering you, gently press a damp cloth against your skin for 30 seconds, then moisturize immediately.
