Navigating Skin Changes During Menopause
Menopause changes your skin's needs—focus on gentle hydration, barrier repair, and consistent sun protection rather than fighting natural changes.
Stop trying to turn back time and start working with your skin's new reality—it's actually quite elegant when you stop fighting it.
- Switch to gentler cleansing. Replace foaming cleansers with cream or oil-based formulas that won't strip your skin's natural oils. Your skin produces less sebum now, so harsh cleansing will only make dryness worse.
- Layer hydrating products. Use a hydrating toner or essence before your moisturizer to add an extra layer of moisture. Think of it like priming your skin to hold onto hydration better.
- Upgrade your moisturizer. Move to richer, more occlusive formulas with ceramides or hyaluronic acid. Your skin barrier needs more support now, and lightweight lotions won't cut it anymore.
- Be religious about SPF. Sun protection becomes even more critical as your skin's repair mechanisms slow down. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily, even indoors near windows.
