How to Manage Oily Skin in Summer
Control summer oil with gentle cleansing, lightweight hydration, and strategic powder application.
The biggest mistake is treating oily skin like an enemy - work with it, not against it, and your skin will regulate itself.
- Switch to gel cleansing. Replace cream cleansers with gel or foam formulas that cut through sweat and excess sebum without stripping. Cleanse twice daily, adding a midday rinse with just water if you're particularly oily.
- Layer hydration strategically. Use a lightweight, water-based serum followed by gel moisturizer. Your skin produces more oil when dehydrated, so never skip moisture even when you feel greasy.
- Apply SPF correctly. Choose mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide over chemical formulas. Apply in thin layers, let each layer set for two minutes before adding the next.
- Blot, don't powder. Use blotting papers to remove oil without disturbing makeup. Save powder for strategic spots like T-zone and under-eyes, applying with a light hand.
- Cool your products. Store gel moisturizer and facial mist in the refrigerator. Cold application temporarily tightens pores and feels refreshing on overheated skin.
