How to Work with Textured Skin
Textured skin needs gentle exfoliation, consistent hydration, and makeup techniques that work with your natural surface rather than against it.
Stop trying to erase your skin's natural surface. The goal is refinement, not perfection.
- Gentle Chemical Exfoliation. Use a BHA like salicylic acid 2-3 times per week to dissolve dead skin cells without physical scrubbing. Start with once weekly and build tolerance slowly to avoid irritation.
- Hydrate Consistently. Apply a hyaluronic acid serum on damp skin, then seal with a moisturizer containing ceramides or niacinamide. Dehydrated skin emphasizes texture, so consistent moisture is non-negotiable.
- Prime Smart. Use a smoothing primer that fills in uneven areas rather than one that just adds slip. Press primer into textured areas with fingertips instead of rubbing to create an even base.
- Foundation Strategy. Apply foundation in thin layers with a damp beauty sponge, pressing and rolling rather than dragging. Build coverage gradually where needed instead of applying one thick layer everywhere.
