How to Prevent Premature Aging
Consistent sunscreen, gentle cleansing, and moisturizing are the only daily habits that actually matter.
Everyone obsesses over the latest ingredient when the real secret is boring consistency with three products you can buy anywhere.
- Use SPF every day. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher to your face and neck every morning, regardless of weather or plans. UV damage is the primary cause of premature aging, making this the single most effective prevention step you can take.
- Cleanse without stripping. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser that doesn't leave your skin tight or squeaky. Over-cleansing damages your skin barrier, leading to irritation and accelerated aging.
- Moisturize consistently. Use a moisturizer suited to your skin type twice daily to maintain your skin barrier. Well-hydrated skin looks plumper and develops fewer fine lines over time.
- Sleep on your back. Side and stomach sleeping create compression wrinkles that become permanent over time. Train yourself to sleep on your back or invest in a silk pillowcase to reduce friction.
- Skip the hot water. Wash your face with lukewarm water instead of hot. High temperatures strip natural oils and weaken your skin barrier, making aging more visible.
