How to Fade Dark Spots at Home
Layer vitamin C in the morning and a gentle exfoliant at night, then wait.
Consistency beats intensity every time — better to use gentle products daily than harsh ones sporadically and damage your barrier.
- Start with vitamin C serum. Apply 3-5 drops of L-ascorbic acid or magnesium ascorbyl phosphate to clean skin every morning. It blocks new pigment formation while brightening existing spots. Give it two minutes to absorb before moisturizer.
- Add gentle chemical exfoliation. Use glycolic acid or lactic acid 2-3 times per week at night. Start with the lowest concentration and build tolerance. These dissolve the top layer where pigment sits, speeding up cell turnover.
- Lock in moisture. Follow with a ceramide or hyaluronic acid moisturizer immediately after acids. Compromised skin barriers actually worsen pigmentation, so hydration is non-negotiable.
- Shield with SPF daily. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 minimum every single day, even indoors. UV exposure darkens existing spots and creates new ones faster than any serum can fade them.
