How to Fade Dark Spots at Home

Layer vitamin C in the morning and a gentle exfoliant at night, then wait.

Consistency beats intensity every time — better to use gentle products daily than harsh ones sporadically and damage your barrier.

  1. Start with vitamin C serum. Apply 3-5 drops of L-ascorbic acid or magnesium ascorbyl phosphate to clean skin every morning. It blocks new pigment formation while brightening existing spots. Give it two minutes to absorb before moisturizer.
  2. Add gentle chemical exfoliation. Use glycolic acid or lactic acid 2-3 times per week at night. Start with the lowest concentration and build tolerance. These dissolve the top layer where pigment sits, speeding up cell turnover.
  3. Lock in moisture. Follow with a ceramide or hyaluronic acid moisturizer immediately after acids. Compromised skin barriers actually worsen pigmentation, so hydration is non-negotiable.
  4. Shield with SPF daily. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 minimum every single day, even indoors. UV exposure darkens existing spots and creates new ones faster than any serum can fade them.
