How to Calm Sunburned Skin at Home
Cool the skin immediately, hydrate from inside and out, and protect the healing process with gentle care.
Prevention is everything, but when you mess up, less is more—your skin needs hydration and time, not a 12-step recovery routine.
- Cool Down Fast. Take a cool shower or bath to lower your skin temperature. Pat dry gently with a soft towel, leaving skin slightly damp to lock in moisture.
- Hydrate Aggressively. Apply a fragrance-free moisturizer or aloe vera gel while skin is still damp. Drink more water than usual to hydrate from within.
- Protect the Process. Avoid further sun exposure and wear loose, soft clothing. Skip harsh products like retinol or acids until skin heals completely.
