DIY Avocado Hair Mask for Deep Conditioning

Mash one ripe avocado with a tablespoon of olive oil, apply to damp hair, leave for 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

  1. Choose the right avocado. Use an overripe avocado that feels soft to touch and gives slightly when pressed. The mushier, the better for blending into a smooth paste without lumps.
  2. Create your base. Mash the avocado with a fork until completely smooth, then mix in one tablespoon of olive oil. The oil helps the mixture spread evenly and adds extra conditioning power.
  3. Prep your hair. Work the mask into damp, not soaking hair from mid-length to ends. Avoid the scalp unless your hair is extremely dry.
  4. Let it work. Cover with a shower cap and leave for 20 minutes. The natural oils need time to penetrate the hair shaft and smooth the cuticle.
  5. Rinse completely. Use cool water first to remove the bulk of the mask, then shampoo once with a gentle cleanser. Make sure no green bits remain.
