How to Use an Avocado Face Mask

Mash ripe avocado with a fork, apply to clean skin for 15 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water.

  1. Choose the right avocado. Pick a very ripe avocado that yields to gentle pressure. Overripe is better than underripe for skincare. The oils and nutrients are most concentrated when the fruit is soft.
  2. Prep your base. Mash half an avocado with a fork until completely smooth. No chunks should remain or they'll slide off your face. The consistency should be thick but spreadable, like a paste.
  3. Apply strategically. Spread the mask evenly on clean, dry skin using your fingers or a flat brush. Avoid the eye area where the skin is too delicate for the oils. Work from center outward in upward strokes.
  4. Time and remove. Leave on for 15 minutes maximum. Any longer and the mask starts to dry out and pull at your skin. Rinse with lukewarm water using gentle circular motions to remove every trace.
