How to Use BHA in Your Skincare Routine

Start with a low-concentration BHA product 2-3 times per week after cleansing, always follow with moisturizer and SPF the next morning.

BHA is like a good edit—it removes what doesn't belong and makes everything else look better, but only if you don't overdo it.

  1. Start slow with concentration. Begin with 0.5-1% salicylic acid products to let your skin adjust. Use every third night for the first two weeks, then gradually increase frequency based on how your skin responds.
  2. Apply to clean, dry skin. Cleanse thoroughly and wait for skin to completely dry before applying BHA. Wet skin can increase penetration and potential irritation, especially when starting out.
  3. Layer correctly in your routine. BHA goes after cleansing but before moisturizer and oils. Wait 20-30 minutes after application before applying your next product to allow proper pH levels to work.
  4. Never skip sun protection. BHA increases photosensitivity, making SPF 30 or higher essential every morning. This isn't optional—it's the difference between clear skin and damaged skin.
