How to Use BHA in Your Skincare Routine
Start with a low-concentration BHA product 2-3 times per week after cleansing, always follow with moisturizer and SPF the next morning.
BHA is like a good edit—it removes what doesn't belong and makes everything else look better, but only if you don't overdo it.
- Start slow with concentration. Begin with 0.5-1% salicylic acid products to let your skin adjust. Use every third night for the first two weeks, then gradually increase frequency based on how your skin responds.
- Apply to clean, dry skin. Cleanse thoroughly and wait for skin to completely dry before applying BHA. Wet skin can increase penetration and potential irritation, especially when starting out.
- Layer correctly in your routine. BHA goes after cleansing but before moisturizer and oils. Wait 20-30 minutes after application before applying your next product to allow proper pH levels to work.
- Never skip sun protection. BHA increases photosensitivity, making SPF 30 or higher essential every morning. This isn't optional—it's the difference between clear skin and damaged skin.
