How to Use Turmeric for Skin Brightening

Mix turmeric powder with yogurt or honey to create a gentle mask that can help even skin tone over time.

Turmeric masks are the beauty equivalent of a slow burn—effective but requiring patience that most people don't have.

  1. Choose your base. Start with plain Greek yogurt for sensitive skin or raw honey for dry skin. Both contain natural acids that work with turmeric's anti-inflammatory properties. Use about two tablespoons as your foundation.
  2. Add turmeric carefully. Mix in half a teaspoon of pure turmeric powder—not the cooking blend. Too much will stain your skin yellow temporarily. The mixture should be golden, not orange.
  3. Test and apply. Patch test on your inner wrist first. If no reaction after 24 hours, apply the mask to clean, dry skin avoiding the eye area. Leave for 10-15 minutes maximum.
  4. Remove gently. Use a warm, damp cloth to remove the mask in circular motions. Follow with a gentle cleanser if needed and your usual moisturizer. Use once weekly maximum.
