How to Use Urea in Skincare Without Overdoing It
Start with 5-10% urea products once daily on clean skin, building up tolerance before layering with other actives.
- Choose your concentration. Begin with 5-10% urea for daily use or 20-30% for targeted rough patches. Higher percentages work faster but can irritate sensitive skin. Lower concentrations are gentler for face use.
- Apply to clean, dry skin. Use urea products on freshly cleansed skin before other treatments. Let it absorb for 10-15 minutes before applying moisturizer. This prevents dilution and maximizes effectiveness.
- Build up slowly. Start every other day for the first week, then increase to daily use as tolerated. Watch for redness or stinging—this means you're moving too fast or the concentration is too high.
- Layer strategically. Use urea before heavier moisturizers but after lightweight serums. Avoid combining with other exfoliants initially—your skin needs time to adjust to one active at a time.
