How to Care for Skin After Shaving

Cool water, gentle patting, and immediate moisture lock in the healing your skin needs.

Good aftercare is what separates people who shave daily from people who avoid it โ€” treat your skin like you just performed minor surgery, because you did.

  1. Rinse with cool water. Skip the hot water temptation. Cool water closes pores and reduces inflammation immediately after your blade work. Pat dry with a clean towel โ€” never rub.
  2. Apply alcohol-free aftercare. Alcohol burns compromised skin and creates more irritation. Look for witch hazel or aloe-based products that soothe without stinging. Apply while skin is still slightly damp.
  3. Lock in moisture immediately. Your skin barrier is temporarily disrupted. Use an unscented moisturizer or facial oil within two minutes of shaving. This prevents water loss and speeds healing.
  4. Avoid harsh products for 24 hours. No acids, retinoids, or scrubs. Your freshly shaved skin needs recovery time, not more active ingredients that could trigger irritation or breakouts.
