How to Build an Overnight Hydration Routine
Layer hydrating products from thinnest to thickest consistency while your skin naturally repairs itself during sleep.
Your skin does most of its repair work while you sleep anyway, so this is just giving it the tools it needs rather than forcing some miracle transformation.
- Start with clean skin. Use your regular cleanser to remove makeup and daily buildup. Clean skin absorbs products better and prevents clogged pores overnight.
- Apply a hydrating toner or essence. Pat a thin layer of toner or essence into damp skin. This creates the first moisture barrier and helps subsequent products penetrate deeper.
- Layer a hydrating serum. Apply hyaluronic acid or glycerin-based serum to slightly damp skin. These ingredients pull moisture from the air and hold it in your skin all night.
- Seal with a rich moisturizer. Use a heavier cream than your daytime moisturizer to lock everything in. Your skin repairs itself overnight and needs extra moisture to support this process.
- Add a sleeping mask if needed. For very dry skin, apply a thin layer of overnight mask as your final step. This creates an occlusive barrier that prevents water loss while you sleep.
