How to Do the 60-Second Cleansing Method

Massage your cleanser into dry skin for a full minute before adding water to dissolve makeup and buildup more thoroughly.

Most people rush their cleansing like they're washing dishes — this method forces you to actually dissolve what you put on your face instead of just moving it around.

  1. Apply to dry skin. Pump cleanser into your palms and apply to completely dry face. Start with closed eyes and work outward in small circles.
  2. Massage for 60 seconds. Use gentle upward motions, spending extra time on areas where makeup or sunscreen sits heaviest. Your skin should feel slightly warm from the friction.
  3. Add water slowly. Wet your hands and gently emulsify the cleanser until it turns milky. This step lifts away dissolved debris without stripping your skin.
  4. Rinse completely. Use lukewarm water to remove all traces of cleanser. Pat dry with a clean towel instead of rubbing.
