How to Do Buccal Massage for Your Jawline

Buccal massage works the muscles inside your mouth and along your jawline to release tension and create definition through targeted pressure and movement.

  1. Prep your hands and mouth. Wash your hands thoroughly and rinse your mouth with water. Clean hands prevent bacteria transfer, and a clean mouth makes the process more comfortable.
  2. Start with external jaw work. Place your thumbs under your jawbone and use firm upward pressure to massage along the entire jaw edge from chin to ears. This warms up the area and releases surface tension.
  3. Work inside the mouth. Place your thumb inside your mouth against your inner cheek, with fingers on the outside. Use gentle but firm pressure to massage the buccal muscle in small circles, working from the corner of your mouth toward your ear.
  4. Address the masseter muscle. Keep your thumb inside your mouth and locate the thick muscle at the back of your jaw. Apply pressure while slowly opening and closing your mouth to release tension in this major chewing muscle.
  5. Finish with lymphatic drainage. Use light upward strokes from your jawline toward your temples to encourage lymph movement. End with gentle pressure at the lymph nodes just below your ears.
