How to Do Lymphatic Gua Sha at Home

Use a smooth gua sha tool with gentle upward and outward strokes on oiled skin to encourage lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness.

  1. Prep your skin. Apply a facial oil or serum to clean skin. The tool needs slip to glide without dragging. Start with damp skin from your cleanser, then add your oil on top.
  2. Begin at your neck. Hold the tool at a 15-degree angle and stroke upward from your collarbone to your jawline. Use light pressure and move slowly. This opens the lymphatic pathway before working on your face.
  3. Work your jawline. Place the curved edge under your chin and glide along your jawbone toward your ear. Repeat 5-10 times on each side. This area holds tension and fluid buildup.
  4. Address your cheeks. Start at your nose and stroke outward toward your hairline, following your cheekbone. Move from the center of your face outward and upward. Keep the pressure gentle but firm enough to feel the tool moving lymph.
  5. Finish with your forehead. Use upward strokes from your eyebrows to your hairline, working from the center outward. End each stroke by gliding down past your ear to your collarbone to complete the lymphatic pathway.
