How to Oil Cleanse Without Ruining Your Skin
Massage oil into dry skin for 60 seconds, add warm water to emulsify, then rinse clean.
Oil cleansing works because it follows basic chemistry, not because it's trendy—stop overthinking it and just be consistent.
- Start with completely dry skin. Apply cleansing oil to dry hands and dry face. Wet skin dilutes the oil and makes it less effective at breaking down makeup and sunscreen. Your face should feel slightly grippy, not slippery.
- Massage in circles for one minute. Use gentle pressure and work the oil across your entire face, including your eye area. The oil needs time to dissolve everything sitting on your skin. Sixty seconds is long enough to be effective without irritating.
- Add water gradually to emulsify. Wet your hands with warm water and continue massaging. The oil should turn milky white as it emulsifies. This step is crucial—it transforms the oil into a substance that actually rinses away instead of leaving residue.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Splash your face multiple times until all traces of the milky emulsion are gone. Your skin should feel clean but not tight or stripped. Follow with a gentle water-based cleanser if you prefer double cleansing.
