How to Do Reverse Cleansing for Better Skin

Apply oil cleanser to dry skin first, then follow with water-based cleanser on wet skin.

  1. Start with dry hands and face. Apply oil cleanser directly to completely dry skin using dry hands. The oil needs to grab makeup and sunscreen without water diluting its effectiveness.
  2. Massage the oil cleanser. Work the oil into skin for 30-60 seconds, focusing on areas with makeup or sunscreen. You'll feel textures dissolving as the oil breaks down products.
  3. Add water gradually. Wet hands slightly and continue massaging to emulsify the oil. The mixture will turn milky white as oil and water combine.
  4. Rinse completely. Remove all oil residue with lukewarm water. Your skin should feel clean but not tight or stripped.
  5. Follow with water-based cleanser. Apply your regular gel or foam cleanser to wet skin as usual. This removes any remaining oil and deep cleans pores.
