How to Do Slugging for Dry Skin
Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or similar occlusive over your entire nighttime skincare routine to lock in moisture.
Slugging is just fancy marketing for what your grandmother already knew—sometimes the simplest solution works best.
- Complete your evening routine first. Cleanse and apply all your usual serums, treatments, and moisturizer. Slugging works by sealing everything underneath, so your base routine needs to be perfect first.
- Apply the occlusive layer. Take a small amount of petroleum jelly, Aquaphor, or similar product and warm it between your palms. Pat gently over your entire face, avoiding the eye area where it can cause milia.
- Sleep and wash off in the morning. Use an old pillowcase since some product will transfer. In the morning, cleanse with your usual cleanser to remove the occlusive layer and reveal softer skin underneath.
