How to Fix Cakey Makeup Midday

Press a damp beauty sponge over cakey areas to lift excess product, then lightly dust with translucent powder.

  1. Assess the damage. Look for areas where makeup has built up or separated—usually around the nose, under eyes, and chin. Don't attempt to fix everything at once.
  2. Lift excess product. Press a barely damp beauty sponge over cakey areas using gentle patting motions. The moisture will reactivate the makeup and allow you to pick up the excess buildup.
  3. Blend and smooth. Use the clean side of your sponge to gently blend the remaining product into your skin. Work in small sections and avoid dragging or rubbing motions.
  4. Set strategically. Dust a light layer of translucent powder only where you removed product. This prevents the fixed areas from looking different from the rest of your face.
