How to Figure Out Your Actual Skin Type

Watch how your skin behaves 2-3 hours after washing your face with just water.

Stop guessing and stop buying products for the skin type you wish you had—work with what you've actually got.

  1. Start with a clean slate. Wash your face with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, then pat dry. Don't apply anything—no moisturizer, no serum, nothing. This baseline test eliminates all variables.
  2. Wait and observe. Give it 2-3 hours and really look at your skin. Check your T-zone, cheeks, and jawline separately. Your skin will tell you exactly what it needs during this window.
  3. Map the results. Oily skin will look shiny all over. Dry skin feels tight and might flake. Combination shows oil in the T-zone with normal or dry cheeks. Normal skin feels comfortable everywhere with minimal shine.
