How to Figure Out Your Actual Skin Type
Watch how your skin behaves 2-3 hours after washing your face with just water.
Stop guessing and stop buying products for the skin type you wish you had—work with what you've actually got.
- Start with a clean slate. Wash your face with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, then pat dry. Don't apply anything—no moisturizer, no serum, nothing. This baseline test eliminates all variables.
- Wait and observe. Give it 2-3 hours and really look at your skin. Check your T-zone, cheeks, and jawline separately. Your skin will tell you exactly what it needs during this window.
- Map the results. Oily skin will look shiny all over. Dry skin feels tight and might flake. Combination shows oil in the T-zone with normal or dry cheeks. Normal skin feels comfortable everywhere with minimal shine.
