How to Use a Face Steamer at Home

Steam clean skin for 5-10 minutes, then follow immediately with your usual skincare routine while pores are open.

Steaming is the skincare equivalent of opening windows in a stuffy room. Simple, effective, impossible to mess up if you keep it brief.

  1. Set up properly. Fill the steamer with distilled water and position it 6-8 inches from your face. Clean skin first but skip any active ingredients like retinol or acids before steaming.
  2. Steam for the right duration. Keep sessions between 5-10 minutes maximum. Your skin should feel warm and slightly flushed, not red or irritated.
  3. Follow up immediately. Pat skin dry gently and apply your serums and moisturizer while skin is still slightly damp. This locks in the hydration and maximizes absorption.
