How to Use a Sleeping Mask Overnight

Apply sleeping mask as your final skincare step, leave on overnight, and wake up to softer, more hydrated skin.

Sleeping masks are just rich moisturizers with better marketing, but the ritual of putting one on signals to your brain that skincare time is over—which is worth something.

  1. Prep your base. Cleanse thoroughly and apply your usual evening skincare routine first. Let everything absorb for 10-15 minutes before the mask goes on—you want clean, slightly tacky skin, not wet.
  2. Apply the mask. Use about a grape-sized amount and spread evenly across face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Think thin layer, not cake frosting—you should still see your skin through it.
  3. Let it work. Sleep normally and let the mask do its job overnight. Most formulas are designed to absorb slowly, so don't worry about transfer to your pillow unless you're a dramatic face-sleeper.
  4. Morning removal. Rinse off with lukewarm water and gentle circular motions. Follow with your morning routine as usual—your skin should feel plump and smooth.
